Carol and I have a long history of interest in “good” music. Carol had piano lessons and performed in recitals and I dabbled with the violin and trumpet—but no recitals. I sang in the Glee Club at Bowdoin College and Carol and I have been members of many church choirs. We also sang with Princeton Pro Musica in Princeton, NJ, a 120-voice auditioned choral group performing throughout New Jersey and with Eve Qualer and the New York Opera Orchestra at Carnegie Hall.
I’ve been an organ “fan” for many years, stopping in to hear the Wanamaker when in Philadelphia and hearing Virgil Fox often, including his playing at Carnegie Hall for his mother’s 90th birthday! When retiring to Brunswick five-plus years ago, we found Ray Cornils in our search for a church. Enough said. We were soon coming to Portland to hear the Kotzschmar and I found myself on the FOKO Board.
I’ve been on the board for 5 years now and have enjoyed every moment. It is a great group that gives countless hours to the Kotzschmar, insuring its voice continues to be heard throughout the community.
